With this diverse group, needless to say not everyone was in agreement!
Fun, fun, what can I say.

Several great panelists joined us such as Ken McArthur, Rosalind Gardner, Willie Crawford, Paul Myers, Jane Mark, Phil Bastin, Sid Hale, David Garfinkle and James Maduk.

Resources and Tools

Did you know you can monitor your interests with regular alerts sent to you by Google? Google has a new service called Google Alert.

Setup some keywords or phrases you want to track and Google sends out alerts to you.

http://www.googlealert.com

You could use this to monitor other businesses in a similar area as yours and how they are doing in the search engine area.

-----------------------------------------

Content protection from theft or being plagiarized.

Ever wonder if your content has been copied or stolen from your site?

Visit the below site to check and see. Type in your URL and it will return results with links that have matching or almost matching copy to yours.

Of course if you are using a sales page template from a reseller program then that's a different matter. It will then return the top 15 results of similar resellers.

They also have some tips to help you protect your stuff.

A little fun and mind teaser.

Check out this mind teaser and online card trick, watch as the computer reads your mind each and every time you pick a card.

http://www.oxfordstudent.com/funstuff/card.html

Can you figure out how it works?

After doing the trick several times I figured it out. It's really simple yet amazing in the effect it gives you. If you don't figure it out, stay tuned and I'll explain it in the next issue of the newsletter.

This is an example of how we sometimes look past the obvious. Sometimes I think we assume the obvious too much, even in our business.

Creating Info Products

I want to leave you with an excerpt from one of my previous teleseminars with Michael Green, Willie Crawford, Jeff Smith and Tony Blake.

We had an almost two hour teleseminar on creating informaion products, details at:
http://www.createinformationproducts.com

Below is the excerpt, and Tony is talking about getting ideas to create info products and doing the research and I just want to share a portion of his ideas and resources with you:

---------------------------------------------------

Tony said:

"Gary, I think one of the things we all need to understand is and that's creating information products on a bass ackwards type of situation. People create the product first and then go out and try to find the market. You need to find the market first and then create a product specifically for that market.

You also need to look at the market universe and see if the universe is big enough to support you making a profit on it. Just because there is a book available doesn't mean the market place is large enough for you to profit from it on a larger scale.

A lot of stuff that's published out there, is published with just that, as in a very general sense. One of the tools that I love to use, I've talked about this several times this week alone on several teleseminars and teleconferences is something I think a lot of people tend to forget.

A lot of the tools, everyone wants to do everything online, well there's still a lot of stuff off line you can use. Jeff talked about magazines, bookstores, well listening to people, I love going to restaurants and sidewalk cafes and malls and listening to what people's concerns are. But one of the most important tools out there that very few people use now days is a multi-book set, especially in the United States, I presume Canada probably has their own version, I think the UK has one.

It's called the Standard Rate and Data Service, SRDS book of lists. Standard Rate and Data Service you can find it at SRDS.com there's a couple of challenges here in using the SRDS and before I get into how you can use the SRDS to find and discover niche markets you can create products for. You need to understand first that the SRDS is a grouping of different books that are used for buying and selling and placement in certain media.

There's a book on television and radio, there's a book on magazines. The one we want to look at is the one on mailing lists. It's a two volume set. You can't just walk in any bookstore and buy it, it has to be done by subscription, and subscription runs about five or six hundred dollars a year. Which is out of the means of a lot of people, unless you are going to use it a lot. Sometimes on eBay there are people that will sell used copies.

Now someone once said to me, if I buy a used copy it's going to be, by the way the SRDS comes out six times a year. Every other month there's an issue of the SRDS that comes out, and again they are about the size of two big city telephone books. They say well this thing is outdated about 6-8 months, so who cares, we are not using it to rent list, though we may use it down the road to define lists we may want to rent if we are going to do offline marketing.

What we want to look at is what's out there, what's in that niche, what's being sold, what is the price point, how big is the universe, by the way the word universe means how many people within that market niche are there, that might be interested in this product.

If there is fifteen hundred people within a market niche you know that is a tight market niche to make a profit on. But if you find a market niche that might have two or three million people you know there is a large enough universe to introduce your product and make a fairly decent profit off of that market place.

When you get to the SRDS first off you can find most SRDS, and they are 6 months to a year old, in most any big city library especially in the United States. Again overseas it's going to be a different story, the SRDS is specifically a US product and it handles US lists. But almost any big city library has a copy of the SRDS, they get it from SRDS and they get sent out to libraries and it's usually six months to a year old but that doesn't matter. We want to use it for information purposes.

Once we define a market place defining a market place using the SRDS and understanding there may be 25 or 30 lists, we can look at the price point products sold, what the products were that sold, break down between men and women, what kind of credit cards they used, etc.

We can then also go online and do research and find out if that market place also transfers online. Usually if there is a market place offline, there is a market place online although it may be a smaller market place, but it let's us know if there's a market place online. And we can find that out by doing Google searches, by going to several online list rental companies that will sell you opt-in lists for specific markets and again you can run a Google search for list rental companies.

Going to specific websites and forums and discussion lists that service that niche market and listening to what they are talking about, listening to what their pains are, what solutions they need.

Because that's what they want to buy, they want to buy information to deliver solutions to them. It's a tactical way of going about it, but it also assures your product has a greater chance of success because you've now done your homework."
---------------------------------------------------

So heed Tony's wisdom and "do your homework" first.
