First, I know all of you have heard about the tsunami disaster that happened during the holidays.

My sympathy goes out to all of the victims and families of the disaster.

Be sure to give (if you can) to one of the legitimate organizations to help those devasted people out. It's hard to imagine close to 200,000 people being killed in just a few hours from the disaster.

To see what organizations are taking donations check out:
http://www.give.org/news/tsunami.asp

Also when you click on each organization's link, the resulting page will show you how the funds are used, such as salaries, expenses, etc. as well as what percentage of donations go to the actual program. It lets you know the money you contribute will be used for the intended purpose. Know before you give.

This is disaster is yet another example of how people need people.

I'll expand on that in my rambling today "We All Need People" further down in the newsletter.

Sorry that it has been a while since I emailed, just so many dog-gone projects going on.
I promise to do better in the future. Hmmm, sounds like a New Years Resolution...
NAAAAAAAA... I would just break it.
:-)

We All Need People

Well it's been 6 years this month since my mom passed away in just a couple of days. You know it's hard to believe she has been gone that long (though not out of my heart).

Have you ever thought about just how much your parents did for you as you were growing up? They provided us with love, support and companionship too. I think that's called dependancy even though many of us don't like to admit to having to depend on someone. Well some of us don't anyway...grin...

Anyway I want to touch on how we as marketers need people, like it or not, it's a fact.

Just like with the tsunami disaster and how those people left behind have depended on others around them. They have joined together in a community effort to help each other out in trying to re-build their lives.

We ourselves have to build relationships with other marketers, our customers, and the members of our lists. Sure it's great to think "I don't need anyone's help" however nothing could be further from the truth. I'll bet you have met individuals though that make that very claim.

Perhaps you can remember as a teenager the feeling of being indestructable? It's funny how youth can fool our minds into thinking such foolish thoughts. I know as a teenager there was very few times I thought of just how fragile life was and just how much I really depended on those around me.

As marketers or business people, we have to realize just how much our business, and our success depends upon others and not just our own efforts. You can be the hardest working person, putting in 20 hours a day of work and yet still not be a success if you don't have good relationships with other business people, and your customers.

Relationships affect all parts of our lives, so as you go about your daily business activities be sure to keep that in mind. And as you build relationships, don't do so with the thoughts of "what's in it for me", do so in the spirit of giving and helping those people which will also build and nurture the relationship.

Geeesh, I must sound like a marriage counselor or something...grin... but hey then isn't marriage a relationship.
:-)

Anyway do remember how important relationships are in all parts of your life. Personal and businees. With that please do read the letter below that forwarded to me via email by my wife. It was forwared to her from a friend, unfortunately I have no idea who the author is, but hopefully it will encourage all of you to do something special for someone in your life. We never know when it may be too late.

BEING A MOTHER

After 21 years of marriage, My wife wanted me to take another woman out to dinner and a movie. She said, "I love you, but I know this other woman loves you and would love to spend some time with you."

The other woman that my wife wanted me to visit was my MOTHER, who has been a widow for 19 years, but the demands of my work and my three children had made it possible to visit her only occasionally.

That night I called to invite her to go out for dinner and a movie. "What's wrong, are you well," she asked? My mother is the type of woman who suspects that a late night call or a surprise invitation is a sign of bad news.

"I thought that it would be pleasant to spend some time with you," I responded. "Just the two of us." She thought about it for a moment, and then said, "I would like that very much." That Friday after work, as I drove over to pick her up I was a bit nervous.

When I arrived at her house, I noticed that she, too, seemed to be nervous about our date. She waited in the door with her coat on. She had curled her hair and was wearing the dress that she had worn to celebrate her last wedding anniversary. She smiled from a face that was as radiant as an angel's. "I told my friends that I was going to go out with my son, and they were impressed," she said, as she got into the car.

"They can't wait to hear about our meeting." We went to a restaurant that, although not elegant, was very nice and cozy. My mother took my arm as if she were the First Lady.

After we sat down, I had to read the menu. Her eyes could only read large print. Half way through the entries, I lifted my eyes and saw Mom sitting there staring at me. A nostalgic smile was on her lips. "It was I who used to have to read the menu when you were small," she said.

"Then it's time that you relax and let me return the favor," I responded. During the dinner, we had an agreeable conversation- -nothing extraordinary but catching up on recent events of each other's life. We talked so much that we missed the movie. As we arrived at her house later, she said, "I'll go out with you again, but only if you let me invite you." I agreed.

"How was your dinner date?" asked my wife when I got home. "Very nice. Much more so than I could have imagined," I answered. A few days later, my mother died of a massive heart attack. It happened so suddenly that I didn't have a chance to do anything for her.

Some time later, I received an envelope with a copy of a restaurant receipt from the same place mother and I had dined. An attached note said: "I paid this bill in advance. I wasn't sure that I could be there; but nevertheless, I paid for two plates - one for you and the other for your wife. You will never know what that night meant for me.

I love you, son."

One final quick note:

Nicheology

Ryan Deiss and Jimmy D. Brown have opened up their Nicheology site to members again. Most of you have probably heard about Nicheology, if not you can read more here at the below link:

They currently have 29 guides you can use to create your own niche products. The membership has been closed because it was full, however they have re-opened it due to losing some members from a problem they experienced with a payment processor company.
